Tue. Nov 27th 2007 Pine Bluff is getting an excellent Fire Chief in Don Jose Horton. The thing I appreciate most about Fire Chief Horton is his dedication to the mission of the fire service. I know him to be loyal to the fundamentals of the fire service.
Chief Horton and I only worked together for a short time but during that time I learned much from him. So I encourage all the members of the Pine Bluffs Fire Department to welcome Fire Chief Horton and take the opportunity to learn from his experience. - Elmond D. Taylor-Richmond Fire Dept

Wed. Nov 21st 2007 Congratulations on two outstanding accomplishments. First, on behalf of the women and men of the Richmond Fire Department, I salute you on this historical day, the 115th anniversary of your founding. RFD just celebrated its 149th on October 25th, so we understand the importance and the significance of celebrating such fire service traditions. Second, I want to congratulate you on your selection of Don Jose Horton as Fire Chief. As peers we competed with each other in our climb up through the organization and managed to get promoted to the ranks of lieutenant and captain together. Later, we served as team members at various ranks in key leadership positions for former fire chiefs. As friends, we have supported one another, shared professional and personal challenges, and celebrated each other's successes. Now, while I am sorry that our journey together is ending, I am proud that my friend has achieved his highest professional goal to become your Fire Chief. He has always distinguished himself among his peers here. He has devoted his life's work to this Fire Department as well as to the larger fire service, and especially to helping those around him achieve higher goals as well. Most importantly, Don Horton understands the meaning and value of Tradition but is also steadfastly focused on the Future. He has always looked carefully from that alternate point-of-view, heard subtleties that others might miss, borrowed the best that the past has to teach, and thought out-of-the-box to influence others toward better decisions and to inform his own. Surely, our loss is Pine Bluff's gain. You are getting one of the best that Richmond and the fire service has to offer. I am certain that, as Pine Bluff Fire Department's Chief, Don Horton will help you honor the best traditions that your 115 year history has to offer, and he will lead you to into a safe and successful tomorrow. Again I say "Congratulations" as you celebrate your success today and in the future. - Robert A Creecy - Richmond Fire Dept
